Excellent operation, this product effectively works by remote control. It is controlled by a TV remote. This control is exactly hat I needed.
Whenever I turn my stereo on, the power strip automatically turns on my fans (and visa versa when I power down my receiver). Because I did not have a switched port on the back of the receiver I was in a bit of a bind. Purchased this device to power up some auxillary fans I installed in an entertainment center to keep my receiver cool. It has multiple switched outlets to use for other devices such as a gaming unit etc. This device works as advertised and performs flawlessly. I plug my fans (transformer into on of the switched outlets and my receiver into the controller outlet. I had to make zero adjustments and it worked right out of the box. Very simple.
As far as stated operation it works as it is supposed to once the parent device is turned off or on the other electronic (sibling) devices follow suit as promised. Going to be a while before I can determine if there are savings on my electric bill. If it pays for itself in the stated 6 weeks that would be great or even if it takes a little longer it will still be worth it. You do have to pay attention to where you plug devices, constant power or only when main device is on but that is no big deal.
I also bought a Watt meter with this so I could find the best place to put this device to use. The best place I found to use this was the cable TV box in my bedroom. I bought one of these and it's a good quality product. So with a computer you might save 14 watts. This should save me about $44 a year. One last note, I found my sub-woofer eating up 10 watts 24/7 because I had it plugged directly in to the wall instead of the outlet in the back of the receiver. I found that most devices only use a watt or less on standby. So this won't pay for itself in a year, but it is like getting a surge protector for $10.
In standby mode, the box alone uses about 30 watts, and the receiver uses 1 watt. I'd give it 5 stars if it was a little more cost effective. It's not a DVR so I have it switch off now with the TV. You computer speakers if you leave them plugged in and on use 8-10 watts (with computer off of coarse), my small HP printer uses about 4 watts in standby. If you pay 20 cents a kWH (which is high) you'll save 18-20, assuming you use your computer on average 4 hours a day: 14 * (24-4) * 356 / 1000 * 0.20 = $19.94 in a year. It's also nice to just switch off the TV and have everything switch off at once. If you use one, you may want to check where you plug in yours.
I GOT IN A NICK OF TIME BECAUSE THE PRICE JUST WENT UP. THIS Smart Strip LCG3 Energy Saving Power Strip WORKS. I AM HAPPY I GOT THIS ENERGY SAVER. I AIN'T SHOCK IT WENT UP BECAUSE THIS SITE ALWAYS CHANGES PRICE. THIS WORK AND I WOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE, WHEN THE PRICE DROP BACK TO THE 20'S
